Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year!

The Indian Community School Physical Education program provides all students the opportunity to explore, practice, and improve in a safe, caring, fun and physically active environment with an emphasis on lifetime fitness and American Indian culture and traditions.

Our teachings in class are based upon The Seven Gifts of humility, loyalty, love, respect, wisdom, bravery, and truth.  All students are assessed daily on “Leading an Active Lifestyle” and “Responsible Actions” during physical education class while building on personal fitness skills.

Students complete the components of the Presidential Challenge Physical Fitness Test and Health Fitness Test to assess individual overall levels of fitness annually.  The tests include; body mass index (BMI) calculation; the one-minute sit-up test (abdominal strength/endurance); pull-up test (upper back and arm strength); sit and reach test (leg and hip flexibility); shuttle run (speed and agility); and the mile run test (large muscle, cardiovascular endurance).

This year students will participate in activities such as the Peaceful Playground, "ICS/NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick", Summer Olympic Themed Sports including Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton, Archery, Gymnastics, Floor Hockey, Sock Wrestling, Team Handball, as well as Iroquois Longball, Flag Football, Baseball, Jump Rope, Oneida Longball, Yoga, Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee, Snowshoeing, Roller Skating, Hiking, and Fitness Training.

If you have any questions, comments, or special talents you would like to share, please contact the Indian Community School Physical Education Department at 414-525-6114 or Christofferson_d@ics-milw.org.

Sincerely,

B. Denise Christofferson, M.Ed.
