7/8 Social Studies
October 9th, 2015
Hi, I’m James Bontempo, I'm entering my 6th year teaching middle school social studies here at ICS. It is both a pleasure and honor to be a part of the ICS community and I look forward to educating and working with the children of Indian Community School.
I’m a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate with a bachelors degree in Secondary Broadfield Social Studies (History, Political Science, and Psychology focus). I grew up and live on the South Side of Milwaukee in Bay View.
When it comes to education, I view it as a two-way street. As a teacher, not only am I responsible for passing information on to my students, but also listening to what they have to say and what works for them. That way I can teach in a method that caters to and services the needs of all my students.
I currently teach a US/Native American History course to the 8th grade and a World Studies course to the 7th grade.
The 8th grade course takes an in-depth look at American History with an emphasis on Native History throughout the growth and expansion of the United States.
The 7th grade course studies the various cultures and people throughout the world while comparing the indigenous people of other lands with Native people here in America.
Outside of my classroom I help with the ICS Summer Program, 8th Grade Trip, 8th Grade Graduation, 8th Grade Retreat, Flag Football, Basketball, Chess, Soccer and Disc Golf.
